I spent the afternoon tasting my new yummies…
I started with the Manitoba Harvest Dark Chocolate Hemp Protein.
Hemp protein powder is very…earthy. The dark chocolate in this brand was very subtle, but just enough to cover the…well, dirt-like taste of hemp protein. I used it in a smoothie with Living Harvest unsweetened vanilla hemp milk, 1/2 of a banana and frozen raspberries.
The smoothie was very good! Not as sweet as I am used to, as I typically use WF’s brand of chocolate or vanilla whey protein powder. I was talking to the person working in the supplements section of WF’s today though and she made a good point. Hemp protein (well at least this brand since it has about 10g of protein per serving) makes a lot more sense nutritionally for those that aren’t trying to build a lot of muscle or working out like crazy. I definitely don’t need the full 25 grams from whey protein typically so this is a great balance. It was definitely more earthy than I’m used to, but still very good!
Next thing to sample was the 365 Organic Smooth Almond Butter.
Oh. My. Gahhhhhh. This stuff is freakin’ delicious. When they say smooth, they mean smooth. I stirred it up and licked the spoon (duh) and nearly passed out from deliciousness. Okay, exaggeration, but really it was so good! It was as smooth as Barney Butter, but not quite as sweet. I’m in love. I especially love that there is only one ingredient….Dry Roasted Almonds! Next time I’m buying a jar of the raw almond butter. Can’t wait to try that!
I also played around with a new snack…
There’s a place in town called Sami’s Bakery that specializes in gluten-free breads and crackers and such. They have a TON of great products (vegan cookies, gluten-free breads, crackers and wraps to name a few) and today I had some of their Millet and Flax crackers. You may have some of their products at WF’s near you, but the actual bakery is located about 20 minutes north of where I live. Anyway, I spread the crackers with some spicy hummus and sliced cucumber. What a yummy, savory snack! My snacks are typically sweet (think fruit, yogurt, etc.) but this was a nice change!
I munched on a few other random (less notable) snacks throughout the evening and sipped some coffee while chatting with my friend! Yep, we have the same name. She stopped by and we had a great time catching up. She is going to be my “yoga student” this Summer. We are working on arranging a morning practice time…breakfast to follow Open-mouthed I’m gonna whip up a batch of Peanut Butter and Banana Oats for her. She won’t ever want to leave!
Night guys!
