In 96 days Im running my second marathon. Yesterday, I was supposed to start training.
Marathon Training: Day 1 = Fail
No worries though, I still have timeright?
Although time may be on my side, my motivation is lacking. Last year I ran the same marathon and my pre-race training consisted of one run per week. Thats correct, you heard me, I only trained one day a week. I finished the race, but it wasnt pretty. I wouldnt recommend this training program to anyone.
My goal this year to run at least three to four days a week. I figure that if I actually train, I should be able to blow away my time from last year.
I awoke in the morning with the best of intentions and long before my running plans for the day disintegrated I enjoyed a breakfast of homemade yogurt (oh yes, it has returned!), organic raspberries and raw oatmeal.
Because my house was a mess and my dog is shedding like he is trying to clone another basset hound, I started the day with a furious cleaning session.
In between cleaning I worked on a writing project and took a break for lunch, which included a turkey sandwich, a too ripe pear and stale Annies crackers.
Lunch also featured my new obsession.
Sparkling Water, where have you been all my life?
Im not a huge soda drinker, but during the summer I always find that I crave something a little bubbly. Since its not appropriate to drink champagne at lunchtime (or at least thats what Im told) sparkling water does the trick. I love it and our pantry is now stocked!
Moving on.
Post lunch I had the crazy idea to wash all of the floors in my house by hand and this is where my running plans went array. By the time I was done, my back, shoulders and knees were killing me and that thought of running made me sick to my stomach.
So, I opted not to run. Cleaning is a workout in itself!
Today is another day and I promise to get my butt out there!
Since I wasnt running I had a little more time to focus on dinner. Ive been thinking about the zucchini feta bake that I had a few weeks ago and I decided to give it a go. Also, Im going to have a sh*t ton of zucchini come the end of summer, so I need to start figuring out what to do with it.
Dinner turned out fine, but next time I would reduce the amount of cheese (I cannot believe those words just came out of my mouth) and add some tomato sauce. You can find the recipe here, if you are interested.
It was good, not great, but eating in a clean house definitely made everything taste better!
