Eating vs Drinking Veggies

…when you can drink them!

I’m on quite a green smoothie kick over here these days. It all started bright and early this morning with green smoothie number one. It was really tasty with 1/2 an Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin English Muffin and raw almond butter.

This one had a banana, frozen cherries, light coconut milk, and 2 big handfuls of spinach. It wasn’t quite cold enough so I added some ice cubes…fish shaped ice cubes. Yah, I’m cool.

After playing doctor with a 4 year old all morning (apparently I was very ill and needed quite a bit of medical attention. After close examination of my ears, I was told that I had “26 females” in them. Not quite sure what that means. Kids!) and a trip to Costco this afternoon to purchase nearly every type of produce they carry, I made green smoothie number two….

This one had 1/2 a banana, frozen strawberries, 1 cup of organic carrot juice, a handful of kale, and a handful of spinach. I’d say I met my vegetable quota for the day, yes?

I ended up giving most of this one to my mom because I saw a mango in the fridge that looked like it wanted to be eaten…

It was perfectly ripe and delicious…especially with many handfuls of granola and carob chips and a few spoonfuls of Crunchy Barney Butter. But I won’t tell if you won’t…

Do you like green smoothies? What’s your favorite combination?

I’m really loving them lately, especially since salad can get a bit boring sometimes. Plus, having greens blended into a smoothie makes them much more readily digestible for your body. In order to get the biggest “nutritional bang” from our food we would have to chew it for hours and hours. Blended like this, we get much more out of it. I also like the idea of blending them rather than juicing because you still get all the filling fiber and such. And it tastes good!

Hope your Saturday is going great! It’s raining here again…and I love it
